Why do licensed and unlicensed people need a refresher? Annual refreshers are beneficial because this year alone, 165 complaints have been filed in a 60- day period of time against housing providers for not accommodating people with a Housing Choice Voucher. Source of Income has been a protected class since 2023, but there may be things people are overlooking that are causing complaints and violations of the License Act to be filed against them. Shocking, but statistics show voucher holders are discriminated against almost 40% of the time. Sometimes this occurs through just verbal comments made by leasing and management staff.
Lack of providing Reasonable Accommodations and Modifications are a close second in the number of complaints being filed against housing providers. Familial status complaints are increasing too.
