City Files Expanded Homeowners' Exemption Bill - CAA testifies in Springfield
The City of Chicago filed Amendment #2 to House Bill 1488 the evening of October 19, 2015, which would double the homeowner exemption for Chicago from $7,000 to $14,000 and authorize all other counties to "opt in" within six months. A doubling of the homeowner exemption would unfairly shift an even bigger burden of Mayor Emanuel's property tax increase on to apartments and renters. CAA is working in coalition with business groups to oppose the legislation. CAA testified on October 20 against the measure at a Revenue Committee hearing in Springfield.
